Regains
SCHOOL STORE
Located on the ground floor of the Academy, the school store embodies its severe, sterile aesthetic despite also housing an overwhelming number of supplies. The pens, pencils, notebooks, and calculators displayed in boxes along the shelves bear Ira Academy's stern, muted colors. The unsharpened pencils are even branded in bold embossed text:
"Ira Academy - Where the Obedient Follow, The Strong Lead"
Only the vending machine, neon and colorful, stands out in this severe environment. Students who wake up with red coins in their possession find themselves drawn here to feed said coins into the welcoming machine. There's only one button: Prizes are random, and there are no returns.
INSTRUCTIONS
Threads containing 5+ comments from your character are eligible for a regain! We count regains in multiples of 5 rather than comments across individual threads. Please use the following form when submitting your regain requests. Add as many thread lines as needed!:
Please do not edit your comment to add new or extra threads. If you want to submit more, please just make a new comment. Thank you!
Regains should be in by 8pm EST Sunday and Wednesday nights to be eligible for that round of rolls. Mods will randomly roll regain items from a fixed list after 8pm EST on these nights and distribute them. Good luck!
REGAIN FAQ
► What is this?
In character, your character will wake up with a small pile of quarter-sized red coins on their nightstand. Characters will be able to quickly deduce that the coins go to the vending machine in the school store.
Out of character, regains are a perk for being active in the game and a way to inject some fun props into gameplay if you so choose. Regains can be conversation starters, top-level topics, murder weapons, bargaining chips, party favors...once they have been earned, they can be used!
► How does this work? What threads can I submit?
You may submit any threads between your character and another. NPCs like the Prefect and Principal count as characters; however, investigation threads with the mod journal (and therefore, no other characters) do not.
You can submit threads used for AC for regains; however, please remember that threads must contain 5 comments from your character to qualify for a regain.
Mods will roll random regains from a fixed list twice per week, late on Wednesday and Sunday. Please have all threads submitted by 8pm EST to be eligible for that round of regains!
► Do threads expire?
Threads do not expire. You can submit threads from game opening to the Wednesday before the final trial.
► When do characters receive their items?
While regains are rolled twice a week, characters may receive the items IC at any time after the items are distributed by the mods.
► Am I able to resubmit a thread if it gets more comments after I've received a regain?
If you have ongoing threads that receive 5+ comments from your character after the first time you submit them for a regain, you can resubmit! Please link the thread from the first new comment when submitting for an accurate count.
► Can all participants in a thread submit it for a regain?
Yes. Even if your threading partner(s) submitted the thread for a regain already, you can submit it for a regain from your character.
► What if the character I was threading with died?
The thread is still eligible for regains as long as your character is still alive! Dead people cannot use the vending machine, however, so you can only put in for a regain while your character is among the living.
► Am I able to turn in threads before my character is planned to die?
That's fine! You can say that your character had the opportunity to visit the vending machine before their death as long as it's after the items are rolled OOCly.
► Can I kill someone with these items? Are they plot relevant?
Items regained from the vending machine can certainly be used to carry out a murder, as long as they are items that were rolled before your case.
While the items in the vending machine are very mysterious indeed, they aren't likely to have any bearing on the Mysteries of the Academy or the game's overarching plot.
► Do I need to participate in the regain system?
You are not required to submit for regained items at any point. If you wish to play through without ever having your character pick up an item, that's totally fine! That said, regain rolls are the only way that items listed on characters' applications will be distributed. There are no other ways to regain items.
► Forget the regains - what other items are available at the school store?
The school store can provide any school supplies your character wants. while the IC rules mention an academy account balance, ICly feel free to handwave that your character had the funds to buy a 12-pack of #2 pencils.
The catch? The school store only has academic supplies. That's it. Pencils, pens, paper, markers, notebooks, binders, calculators, Ira Academy branded phone chargers that take 12 hours to power a battery, paperclips, staples, etc. If you're lucky, you might be able to find a branded flashlight or water bottle that can be used for a rec class.
Even other basic sundry items, like cleaning supplies, snacks, and personal care items aren't available. Just school supplies. There are also no textbooks - or any books with an author.

Pure Gold Bar - A large gold ingot of 99% purity, stamped with a stylized wing design. Heavy enough that you could cave in a goat's skull with it.
Nutcracker - About a foot tall, and with a jaw strong enough to break a walnut or a finger. Painted like a fireman.
Dark Angel Wings - A pair of fluffy fake angel wings that someone's dyed black, for some reason.
Power Ring - A mysterious basketball-sized golden band that pulses with strange energy. It's possible to use this for a temporary boost of energy akin to drinking a whole two-liter bottle of Surge (albeit for one hour), but you'll probably regret doing that unless you're the person this thing is made for.
Yellow Raincoat - Strangely enough, it's just your size!
Sidewalk Chalk - A package of sixteen pieces of sidewalk chalk. Draw your friends, draw anyone!
Pebble Hat: An NFT--er, an Ability Card siphoned from Koishi's powers. This one was a fairly popular trade when it was circulating around the market, but this particular copy is all out of juice. It's a small trading card with Koishi's hat on it.
Portable Planetarium - Just set this dome-shaped projector down on the ground beneath an open ceiling, and you can remember what it's like to see the stars.
Face Bank - Why, why is the Principal letting this continue to be a thing?
False Mustache - How dashing!
Kibble - Dog food! Wet dog food with bits of dry mixed in, for a nutritious combination! It’s also shooting out of the vending machine at surprisingly fast speeds, so watch out!
Wheeled Shoes - A fashionable pair of sneakers that somehow fit you--they have wheels in the sole that will allow you to roll anywhere.
Rose Crest Ring - A ring with a stylized crest of a rose on its face, sized for a young lady's finger.
Twin Chakrams - A pair of chakram-like rings normally able to be temporarily charged with magic so they return to the thrower.
Succulent Plant - A potted succulent. They say these plants are easy to keep alive...if only it was that easy for everything!
Bottle Cap - A plastic bottle cap from a lemonade bottle, lemonade and bottle not included.
Deck of Cards - A standard deck of playing cards. No gambling on campus grounds!
Budegg (TM) - This pixelated virtual pet lives on a keychain. Remember to feed and play with it daily, or your new buddy will die! If you care for it well, maybe it will evolve into something special?
Combat Knife - What do you have there, friend? A knife! No!
Nailbat - The pieces of metal embedded into this wooden cricket bat definitely make this a health hazard.
Turtle - A young turtle that seems trapped here just like you. Luckily, there's enough food for them, too.
