PROLOGUE: The Reader and the Storyteller

[Most of this is about a little girl called the Reader and her lovely life with her parents. Then the following:]

The Reader didn't always understand them but she loved her parents regardless. Then the foreign soldiers came. Her parents said they were safe because the soldiers were far away. They didn't say anything about the planes.

The soldiers brought their planes from over the sea. Soon all she could see was smoke and fire. Mommy and Daddy didn't say anything after that.

After the soldiers were the doctors. The doctors were worse. The Reader was in pain all the time from the fire but the doctors didn't help. Doctors were good, her parents had told her. Yet this was a lie. These doctors were bad. They only wanted to see the Reader hurt.

They never spoke to her as a child. The Reader was just their toy to break and fix and break then fix again. This made the Reader sad. It lasted for a long time before the Reader decided she couldn't tough it out anymore. She cried in her heart. Her body hurt as if it was on fire again then she knew it.

The Reader had died. She was alone now in a strange wonderland. Sometimes she met others like herself who probably died. It was so lonely. Many years passed before the Reader decided to make a wish.

"I don't got anything to read anymore. I don't have Mommy or Daddy or any friends," the Reader said. "I want a friend."

Someone heard her wish. A girl who looked like her greeted the Reader. "I am the Storyteller," she said. "You who cried out with loneliness, you will be my Master. You love stories as much as I do. Together we will be Alice."

The Reader nodded in agreement. "Yes, we will be Alice."

So the two decided that this strange wonderland would be their home for forever.

[The story goes on explaining many charming adventures the two girls had tricking adults, making them disappear with the Nameless Forest or having Jabberwock play with them. Everything seemed fine until a 'pair of friends' called the Nice Lady and the Queen of Hearts show up.

Apparently this was someone the Storyteller couldn't defeat.]

No one could be a better friend to her than me, the Storyteller knew. We are Alice. They will just throw us away. I will send Jabberwock after them then if that doesn't work I will throw them in my Nameless Forest!

The Reader helped the Nice Lady through these games, however, much to the Storyteller's regret.

Despite the Storyteller's tricks, the Queen of Heart's eventually faced down with her. The Queen of Heart's was an expert with her sword and even with her magic the Storyteller couldn't keep up with her.

The Reader and the Storyteller were dying. "Thank you, Storyteller. Thank you, Lady. I wanted to play some more but bye-bye."

The Storyteller knew she had no reason to be sad. No mirror or story should be sad that their use is gone but she was. She was so, so, so sad. She never knew she had a heart yet it was breaking.

Even as she died she knew she needed a happy ending. It's so so so sad to have a bad ending.
